Saracens vs Bath preview

Time will tell but Saracens against Bath looks a contender to be June's Premiership Grand Final at Twickenham.

Bath beat a heavily-rotated Sarries 68-10 last December and returned the favour by rotating for their 36-26 defeat on the final day of the 2024-25 regular season. The decision to rest their stars worked as they went on to win the finale.

The Blue, Black & White returned for the current campaign with a 47-31 win at Harlequins, but lost their last away league fixture 22-20 at Leicester.

Saracens are two-for-two at home, beating Bristol 50-17 and then seeing off Sale 65-14.

Both clubs have been involved in the Premiership Rugby Cup over the international period and have recalled some of their big guns for Sunday's showdown.

Maro Itoje is missing for Saracens but Mark McCall has made a big move behind the scrum by selecting Owen Farrell at fly-half for the first time since his return to the club.

After featuring for England against Argentina, Elliot Daly also makes his first club start of the season following a broken arm, while Bath have former Sarries scrum-half Ben Spencer as their skipper.

Farrell's duel with opposite number Finn Russell will be fascinating, as will the forward battle featuring combative hookers Theo Dan and Tom Dunn.

There is little to choose between the sides but McCall's hosts have looked sharp at home and the coach clearly sees them progressing with Farrell at number ten and Fergus Burke playing an impact role from the bench.

With home Champions Cup fixtures next week, each will be aiming to build confidence. However, Saracens have won their last five home league games and can secure a sixth.
