Sale Sharks vs Saracens preview
Having suffered European exits in the last fortnight Sale and Saracens return to Premiership action cut adrift from the playoff places and with their seasons in danger of petering out.
Sarries have the better chance of making the top four as they face three of their fellow contenders in their run-in but a win at Sale is vital and their away form is a concern.
The London club's only road victories have come at bottom two Gloucester and Newcastle and they have failed to cover the handicap in their four away defeats, most recently when they went down 62-15 at Bath.
Sale are on a poor run too, with just one win in their last nine Premiership games. But their only home defeats have come to top-four sides Northampton, Bath and Exeter, and two of those were by less than a converted try.
Sarries have had an extra week off as they went out in the Champions Cup round of 16 while Sale were in quarter-final action at Leinster last week.
It's a curiosity of Saracens' season that although they have won just five games, four of those victories have been by more than 20 points, including a 65-14 thrashing of Sale in October.
However, their only wins since that date have come against bottom two clubs Newcastle and Gloucester, and the Sharks look to have enough fight about them to at least keep things close at home.
