Wales remain 9-1 to win the Rugby World Cup after beating Fiji 29-17 in Oita to book their berth in the quarter-finals and all but seal top spot in Pool D.

Josh Adams's hat-trick and a try-bonus success for Wales did not tell the full story of a ding-dong battle featuring four yellow cards and a number of injuries.

The Pacific islanders flew into a 10-0 lead through early tries from Josua Tuisova and Kini Murimurivalu and then, after trailing 14-10 at the break, took a 17-14 advantage with less than 30 minutes to go.

Warren Gatland's men are 1-150 to make it four wins out of four in the section against Uruguay in Kumamoto on Sunday. Los Teros, who turned over Fiji earlier in the tournament, receive a 46-point start.

Wales winger Adams is now 6-1 favourite to be the tournament's top tryscorer after joining Japan's Kotaro Matsushima and Argentina's Juan Montoya on four touchdowns. However, he was replaced in the 70th minute against Fiji so may not be risked against Uruguay.
