Plenty of positives for Tigers to take for rematch with Racing 92

Leicester have struggled domestically and in Europe and they were a clear second-best in their 36-26 defeat to Racing 92 in Paris last week. But there were signs of encouragement for the Tigers and they can build on them for this rematch at Welford Road.

In the daunting atmosphere of La Defense Arena, Leicester shipped five tries, but three of those came when they were a man down, and they scored four of their own thanks to some tidy and enterprising play.

There has never been any doubt about the talent in the Tigers squad and even though they up against star-studded opponents, there are signs that Leicester are finally becoming the sum of their parts. They can at least keep this close.

These teams met at the pool stage last season, when Racing edged the away fixture 23-20 and bookmakers foresee a similarly tight clash, but Leicester look in better shape this week.

Newcastle went down with a heavily depleted side in Edinburgh last week but have a host of big names back for the return at Kingston Park and are five-point favourites.

Those sides are scrapping it out at the top of pool five as French heavyweights Toulon and Montpellier have struggled. Toulon beat their Top 14 rivals at home last weekend but are given a ten-point start for part two of their double-header.
