Lyon vs Racing 92 predictions and betting tips
French club rugby is in rude health and with Lyon hosting Racing 92 in Sunday's second semi-final, the Top 14 is guaranteed to have a team in the final of the European Challenge Cup on May 23.
The pair are enduring indifferent domestic seasons, with Lyon eighth, three points and two places above Racing, who have made an intriguing selection call for the game at the Stade de Gerland.
Injuries have hampered Owen Farrell's first season in France. He was signed by Racing to cure their fly-half issues but will line up at inside centre for the first time, with Dan Lancaster, son of former coach Stuart, running the team from number ten.
Having Farrell's experience is a plus for the Parisians but head coach Patrice Collazo has admitted that his selection in midfield is a precautionary measure as Lancaster will cover most of the kicking.
It is an intriguing acknowledgement from Collazo and a coach talking about a player's limitations is likely to invite Lyon to run down his defensive channel at every opportunity.
However, the 33-year-old's know-how could be crucial, especially after the duo drew 25-25 when they met in the league on December 29.
Lyon are the general 2-5 favourites in front of their home crowd but that festive result suggests another tight contest could ensue and backing Racing with a six-point start seems a sensible play.
