There could be some extra animosity when Sale begin the defence of their Premiership Rugby Cup at league leaders Leicester.

The Sharks have revealed they’ve spoken to Tigers fly-half George Ford about a move home to Greater Manchester and although Ford won’t feature on Saturday, the speculation adds spice to the second-string clash.

Leicester have won eight out of eight in the Premiership but will field a patched up side featuring loan players from Nottingham and students out of Loughborough.

Sale, who won the last edition of the cup in 2019, have also rung the changes but their line-up contains a few recognised names and coach Alex Sanderson could get a bit more continuity for his team with several members of the squad having come through the academy together.
