Australia v Argentina preview

Having suffered a last-gasp 28-24 defeat against Australia in Townsville last weekend, Argentina will be looking for revenge when they take on the Wallabies in the Rugby Championship in Sydney early on Saturday morning.

The Pumas were on the verge of a memorable victory at North Queensland Stadium but Australia held their nerve to score a try in the 85th minute, with prop Angus Bell the hero in Townsville.

While that late defeat will have hurt Felipe Contepomi’s side, there are plenty of positives they can take from that performance when they head to Allianz Stadium.

The Pumas are unbeaten in their last two games in Sydney, drawing 16-16 in 2020 and winning 34-31 in 2022.

Argentina will look to pile pressure on inexperienced Test fly-half Tane Edmed, who is set to make just his second international start for the Wallabies.

The Argentina back row will look to give Edmed plenty of work to do in defence and try to unsettle the Brumbies' stand-off.

Given how close the Pumas were to achieving a famous success last weekend, and their solid recent record in Sydney, Argentina with a four-point handicap start appeals.
