Match previews

Hull KR against Salford Red Devils has been giving star billing on Friday night following the postponement of Leeds Rhinos versus St Helens in the Betfred Super League and the Robins can put on a show for the Sky TV cameras.

Covid protocols scuppered the Headingley fixture this week and that is the same story for Wigan's trip to Huddersfield so there are just two matches to get stuck into as we continue with round nine.

And Hull KR are likely to fancy some of the spotlight after an impressive run of four wins in six matches which has seen them leap into sixth place in the standings.

This fixture has produced some classics in recent seasons with the last five meetings featuring winning margins of two, one, two, 14 and two points, but, with Salford in such miserable shape, a more one-sided contest looks likely this time around.

The Red Devils have won just one of their eight matches this season, against bottom-of-the-table Leigh, and they may not get much out of a KR side who look to be getting stronger each week.

Covering one converted try is all that is asked of the home side on the match handicap and that looks way too skinny, especially with leading tryscorer Ryan Hall in top finishing form.

A slightly more generous offer is the 12-point start handed to Wakefield for their trip to Warrington.

Trinity have won three matches on the bounce and should be in good spirits for a fixture in which they generally struggle.

And, it looks a good time to take on the Wolves who may be licking their wounds following a 35-20 hammering in the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final against Castleford last Saturday.

Wire had been in good nick prior to that shock defeat and are the top tryscorers in Super League but they may struggle to pick themselves up from that disappointment and Wakey look worthy of support with clinical winger Tom Johnstone set to return from injury.
