There is just a month to go until the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford and the jostling for position in the playoff race has reached fever pitch.

Wigan host Castleford on Friday and the defending champions can virtually assure themselves of a top-two finish with a win over the Tigers, while there is another crucial contest just down the road.

St Helens, beaten by Wigan last week, head to Leigh in a fourth-versus-fifth clash which is a must-win contest for both as they aim to finish the season as high as possible.

The finish line is in sight for the Super League regular season and with just a month to go until the Grand Final the race to finish as high as possible has reached fever pitch.

Leaders Hull KR can claim top spot with a win at Wakefield on Saturday, but before that defending champions Wigan should all but seal second place when they host Castleford Tigers at the Brick Community Stadium.

A comfortable home win looks likely as the toothless Tigers have lost their last four fixtures on the road, shipping a hefty 160 points while scoring just 16.

A one-sided affair can be expected but things may be more competitive just down the road, where Wigan's local rivals Leigh Leopards and St Helens square up in a mouthwatering encounter.

It pits fourth versus fifth at the Leigh Sports Village and the home side could mathematically still nick second spot if results go their way in the final week.

However, it is more likely that third is the best they can hope for and Leigh could end St Helens' claims of finishing higher than fifth with a victory.

The Leopards have been in blistering form, scoring 34 points or more in each of their last three outings and they have claimed wins in their last three dust-ups with the Saints.

It was 16-4 to Leigh when the teams last met in round 19 and a similar outcome looks likely in this decisive clash.

St Helens have faced title rivals in their last two outings and come up short in both times, losing 18-4 to Wigan last week after a 12-8 defeat at Hull KR, and Leigh could be the third playoff rival in a row to thwart the Saints.

Scoring just 12 points across those two matches suggests a four-point handicap can be covered by the home side and it may be worth backing in-form winger Keanan Brand to maintain his fine finish to the campaign.

Brand has bagged 15 tries this term, with five of them coming in his last two outings.

At 7-5 he looks a decent bet to cross the whitewash once again.
