Super League Rivals Rounds continues on Friday with a mouthwatering derby dust-up between defending champions Wigan Warriors and bitter rivals St Helens.

Saints have home advantage for this crucial clash which could have a huge bearing on the playoff places with just three rounds of the regular season remaining.

Elsewhere on Friday, Wakefield should have little trouble caging the Castleford Tigers in their derby showdown at the Jungle.

Friday's Betfred Super League preview

St Helens  and Wigan have won 17 Super League titles between them and Friday's Rivals Round dust-up could have a huge bearing on whether either of the old foes add to that tally this season.

The pair meet at the Totally Wicked Stadium separated by just four points in the standings with three rounds of the regular season left to play.

Defending champions Wigan are clinging on to faint hopes of finishing top but a defeat would all but end their challenge as that would give Hull KR the chance to clinch the League Leaders’ Shield with a victory over Hull FC on Sunday.

A win for fifth-placed St Helens would move them to within two points of the Warriors and maintain their own hopes of a top-two finish.

That would ensure home advantage in the playoffs and that has been key for Saints in recent meetings with Wigan as the Red Vee have won their last five matches against their bitter rivals on home soil.

Wigan have won the last three meetings by an aggregate score of 60-26 but the champions have struggled for consistency this term and St Helens are fancied to win a mouthwatering tussle by no more than 12 points in a clash which could swing either way.

Across the Pennines in West Yorkshire on Friday, things could be more clearcut when Wakefield head to Castleford.

Trinity currently occupy the final playoff spot and should strengthen their claims with a comfortable win over the toothless Tigers.

Wakey have won both meetings with Castleford this term and are likely to be too strong for their local rivals who have lost five on the bounce, failing to score more than six points in any of those.
