Match preview

A Magic Weekend victory over rivals Wigan has given St Helens further breathing room at the top of Betfred Super League and the champions enter the final third of the regular season four points clear of the chasing pack.

Saints had to draw on all of their never-say-die attitude to come from behind to beat the Warriors and another tough test may await Kristian Woolf's charges on Friday.

Third-placed Huddersfield are the visitors to the Totally Wicked Stadium and the Giants won't head across the Pennines lacking confidence.

Ian Watson's beaten Challenge Cup finalists have won seven of their last eight Super League matches, defeating their Wembley conquerors Wigan at home and Catalans in France during that run.

And barring a 54-6 hiding in September 2020, Huddersfield have generally held their own against the champions. Saints have won the pair's other four league and cup matches since the start of the 2020 season by two, eight, five and 12 points.

St Helens made sure of the two points only six minutes from time in April's reverse fixture and another competitive clash is on the cards, even if the hosts still look likely to win.

Take Saints to win by up to two converted scores.

Second-placed Wigan will be hoping the Giants can get the job done at St Helens but the Warriors will be just as keen to take care of business at home to Hull FC.

The Airlie Birds were 31-22 winners at home to Wigan earlier this season but the two sides are in much different form now.

Hull snapped a four-game losing streak to beat rivals Hull KR at the Magic Weekend but they conceded 28 points and there are still pressing questions over their defence which has conceded 149 points in five games.

Wigan's lightning backline could snuff out any idea of a Hull resurgence.
