Hull FC vs Wakefield Trinity predictions
It's approaching crunch time in the Betfred Super League with only ten rounds of the regular season remaining.
The top five – Hull KR, Wigan, Leeds, Leigh and St Helens – have a handy buffer in the race for a playoff place, but there are a clutch of clubs in behind them battling it to join them in the post-season.
Wakefield and Hull FC can count themselves in that number and Thursday's meeting in East Yorkshire could have a huge bearing on who continues on the road to Old Trafford.
Few pundits could have expected Wakey to be in the mix for the top six after promotion but Trinity are there on merit.
Daryl Powell's men have already beaten Leeds, Wigan, Leigh and Warrington (twice) this season and sixth-placed Trinity head to Hull following a 44-6 home rout of the misfiring Catalans Dragons.
Hull made an impressive start to the season under new coach John Cartwright, which featured a 16-12 win at Wakefield in March, but Trinity are a value bet to turn the tables on the Airlie Birds on Thursday.
FC won five of their first seven league matches under Cartwright but have won only three of their subsequent ten, two of which were against a Catalans side in terrible form while the other was against crisis club Salford.
They have been competitive in defeat – just one of their last five losses has been by more than eight points – but their playoff challenge is in danger of petering out and, buoyed by their handsome win over the Dragons last week, Wakefield could add another significant scalp to what has been an excellent campaign .
