Match previews

Reigning Betfred Super League champions St Helens were 13-8 at the start of the campaign to top the table at the end of the regular season but they are just 10-11 to finish top of of the pile after a rampant opening four rounds.

Last season's Grand Final runners-up Catalans Dragons were swatted aside by the Saints on opening night, while Hull FC, Wakefield and Hull KR were beaten with disdain by a Saints side chasing a fourth successive title.

Warrington Wolves are the latest side to try to topple the champs and their record at the Totally Wicked Stadium suggests they can give it a good go.

Wire have won on eight of their 12 visits to the Saints' stronghold and they have won four of their last five tussles with the Red Vee.

Bookmakers are pessimistic about the Wolves' chances, chalking them up as 7-2 shots, while a home win is just 2-9.

However, there may be scope for backing the visitors with a handicap start of 12 points at evens.

Saints have conceded just 26 points over their opening four fixtures and these matches are often tight.

None of the last five meetings have topped more than 38 points with the last meeting landing in St Helens' favour 24-14.

You take on the champions at your peril but the Wolves could stay in touch, while another close clash can be expected when Salford host Hull KR.

It's been a miserable start to the season for both sides who have just three wins between them from their opening eight matches.

KR are finding points hard to come by, plundering just 56 in their opening four fixtures, but the Red Devils have found scoring easier, averaging just over 20 points per game.

Salford have won five of their last six on home soil and are fancied to have the edge over the Robins while Toulouse are capable of troubling Wakefield in Friday's other contest.

Olympique have had a dire start to life in the top flight but were close to producing an almighty shock last week as they fell to a last-gasp 29-28 defeat against Wigan Warriors.

That was their fourth loss on the bounce but Wakey are yet to win this season either so there could be plenty of nerves on show at Belle Vue.

An away win at 7-2 looks unlikely but the French raiders look a touch of value with a 14-point start.
