Preview

Stand-in England captain George Williams reckons there's more to come from the Rugby League World Cup hosts after last week's 42-18 success over France all but secured top spot in Group A.

Shaun Wane's men have posted 102 points in opening successes over Samoa and the French and they will be expecting to rack up plenty more against section underdogs Greece at Bramall Lane.

Head coach Wane has rung the changes with next week's quarter-finals in mind, resting usual captain Sam Tomkins among others.

That mean's Jack Welsby will revert to full-back and the St Helens jack-of-all-trades is likely to be joined in the starting line-up by his potent Saints teammate Tommy Makinson, who was rested against France.

Greece showed up well against the French on their World Cup debut but paid for those exertions against a wounded Samoa side last weekend, going down 72-4.

It's eminently possible that England could make a mockery of a handicap in the high 60s given the huge gulf in quality between the sides, and backing them to win to nil is also tempting, but as Jamaica showed against New Zealand, it can take only one fortuitous try from the underdog to bust the handicap.

So it may be better to have a speculative punt in the tryscorer markets and powerhouse prop Tom Burgess looks huge each-way value at 25-1 to cross first.

By the very nature of his position Burgess isn't a prolific tryscorer but he crossed against Samoa, as well as going close a couple of other times, and it took huge French resistance to stop him adding to his tally last week.

If there are tired bodies in the Greece camp, especially among the forwards, then a barnstorming Burgess is not a proposition they will relish coming up against.

England's clash with Greece is one of three mismatches on Saturday's card with reigning world champions Australia, who have plundered 126 points in victories over Fiji and Scotland, 72-point jollies to see off Italy and Fiji 40-point favourites against the Scots.

Scotland have been dire with ball in hand so far, posting just four points in two abject defeats to the Aussies and Italians, and Fiji, who will make certain of a quarter-final berth with victory, will be keen to sew up victory as soon as possible.

The Bati were 30-0 to the good at half-time in a 60-4 rout of Italy last time out and look a decent bet to be 19 or more points ahead of the Scots at the break in Newcastle.
