Catalans v Salford match preview

Salford's run to the Betfred Super League Grand Final in October is a distant memory and their nightmare start to this campaign looks set to continue in the south of France.

The Red Devils have won just one of their opening five matches this season and points have proved hard to come by following the loss of several star men who helped them land the runners-up medal at Old Trafford.

Jackson Hastings, Robert Lui and Josh Jones have all moved on and Salford are struggling to fill the considerable void.

Catalans have fared much better in the opening weeks, landing two wins from their first three fixtures. Last week's come-from-behind last-gasp 34-29 win at Hull FC was the high point.

The Dragons should be buoyed by that victory and will expect to quell the Red Devils at their Stade Gilbert stronghold.

Salford have won just once on their last seven trips to Perpignan and a victory looks unlikely on this occasion.

A 14-point handicap should be within reach for the home side and it may pay to back Dragons' second-rower Benjamin Jullien to open the scoring.

Jullien bagged twice at the Kcom Stadium last week but is still chalked up as an 18-1 shot to score the opening try in this contest and that looks too big.
