St Helens vs Catalans Dragons Betfred Super League predictions
St Helens edged out Catalans Dragons with a 14-13 victory in round six of this year’s Super League and another close encounter looks likely on Thursday.
Saints have been chalked up as warm favourites to win this contest but they have been struggling for consistency this term, and they make no appeal at shorts odds of 1-4 to win this contest.
Paul Wellens’ side are just inside the playoff places but they were beaten by Leeds last time out at Magic Weekend to make it three straight defeats, and they may struggle to get back on track against a Catalans side who look to be on the up following a slow start to the campaign which saw them lose their opening three fixtures.
The Dragons also lost in Newcastle last time out, but they have won three of their four matches since that loss to Saints at the end of March, and the French raiders have an impressive record against the nine-time Super League champions.
Five of the last seven meetings between these two have gone the way of the Perpignan outfit, and points have often been at a premium when they lock horns.
Each of the last seven match-ups have seen points totals of 38 or fewer, and all seven have been settled by winning margins of no more than 12 points.
Surprisingly, the French raiders have been handed a 12-point start on the match handicap and that looks a cracking bet at evens.
It was 24-12 to St Helens when these two last met at this venue last season but there is scope for thinking the Dragons could even nick the win this time around.
However, they don’t often travel well, so the safety buffer of such a chunky start looks the better option for an encounter which could be cagey.
