Friday's Betfred Super League predictions

Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards played out an astonishing 0-0 draw on the opening night of this season's Super League campaign but a return to the norm looks more likely this Friday.

Leigh won that contest 1-0 courtesy of a golden-point extra-time drop goal but the Warriors are fancied to exact their revenge in this latest Battle of the Borough.

The reigning Super League champions have won ten of their last 11 meetings with their derby rivals, and they have handed out some pastings along the way.

February's 0-0 draw was the second game in a row in which Wigan had stopped Leigh from scoring inside 80 minutes, while each of the last four dust-ups have seen the Leopards fail to score more than six points.

And Leigh's miserable record in this fixture reads even worse given they have failed to score more than 12 points in any of their last six showdowns with the Warriors.

Adrian Lam's men are a much stronger unit this term and bring their own run of good form to this encounter having won their last four, but they face a Wigan side who are going through the gears.

Wigan have won their last five matches and edged Challenge Cup finalists Warrington Wolves 22-20 at Magic Weekend last time out.

St Helens and leaders Hull KR have also been given short shrift in that run and they secure the derby spoils once more this week in a fixture which they have dominated.

A 16-point handicap looks a bit of an ask but betting on under 44 points could pay off.

Only two of the last eight meetings have cleared that mark and Leigh may struggle to breach the third-best defence in the competition after ten rounds of matches.

The Warriors are conceding at an average of just under 12 points per game and the Leopards haven't scored more than that in any of their last six head-to-heads with their local rivals. Just two of Wigan's last six fixtures have produced a total of 44 points or more.

Things could be even tighter in Friday's other offering when Leeds Rhinos host Hull FC at Headingley.

It's fourth versus fifth in the standings but both sides have have endured contrasting fortunes.

Leeds missed out on the playoffs after finishing eighth last year and doubts remained this season after the Rhinos lost three of their opening six fixtures.

However, they have steadily improved and they can edge Hull FC, who have shown a few signs in recent weeks that their revival is running out of steam.

The Black & Whites have won just two of their last six matches and were beaten 12-10 by previously winless Huddersfield Giants last time out, while the in-form Rhinos, who have won four of their last five meetings with Hull FC.
