Match preview

Huddersfield Giants confounded pre-season expectations of a battle against the drop in the Betfred Super League with an authoritative opening success at Catalans two weeks ago and they look a touch of value to continue their winning start at Salford.

The Giants have had two weeks to prepare for Friday's trip across the Pennines after last week's clash with Leeds was postponed due to Storm Ciara. While the Giants had their feet up last weekend, Salford were battling their way past the elements and a physical Toronto side to open their account for the season.

Aidan Sezer was the star of the show for the Giants in their victory over the French side and if the former Canberra star continues in similar vein Huddersfield fans will be hailing Sezer a lot this season.

His playmaking abilities helped Canberra reach last season's NRL Grand Final and his match-winning performance on opening night has seen him halve in price to be crowned Man of Steel.

Salford defied the odds to make last year's Super League showpiece but with Jackson Hastings having departed for Wigan, they look short of the half-back magic Sezer can produce for Huddersfield. That could be the difference.

Leeds may also benefit from a week off when they entertain Hull KR at Headingley.

The Rhinos were thoroughly outplayed by an impressive Hull FC in their opener but they are a side in transition and an extra week developing their combinations will be of great benefit to them.

Rovers performed admirably in defeat in last week's Hull derby but that energy-sapping effort could be to their detriment against Leeds, who will be eager to make a fast start to ease fears that no progress has been made after a disastrous 2019.
