Revitalised Scarlets can push pool favourites Bath

Hosts in driving seat in tight battle for quarter-finals

Bath were 18-13 winners at Scarlets in round two

BT Sport 2, 7.45pm Friday

Pool Five of the European Champions Cup has developed into a fascinating tight contest and things could go down to the wire when Bath host Scarlets at the Rec.

Bath are in the driving seat having already won at Parc y Scarlets in round two and with a final-round fixture at winless Benetton Rugby next weekend. They are even-money favourites to top the section from 15-8 Toulon and 11-2 Scarlets.

Having lost at home Scarlets know they have little room for error. But they will also know that conditions favoured Bath in their 18-13 victory in Wales as incessant rain left the Scarlets attack struggling to move the ball, while a powerful Bath pack were able to wrest control of the game.

A dry night is forecast and both attacks looked in good order last weekend as Bath ran in six tries at Worcester and Scarlets went one better with seven against Dragons as they wrapped up a hat-trick of Pro14 derby wins in their festive fixtures.

Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac highlighted that Bath had been more disciplined and clinical in their victory in the reverse match, and those qualities should again set them in good stead. But Scarlets can do enough to stay close in what could be a high-scoring game.

Recommendation
Bath to win by one to 12 points
