Stoke are back under pressure after their 5-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday but they can respond with a home victory at home to fellow strugglers Newcastle.

Potters boss Mark Hughes rested several players for the trip to Stamford Bridge to give his team a better chance of winning on New Year's Day.

Newcastle had their best team out at the weekend but picked up only one point from a dismal 0-0 draw at home to Brighton.

Those dropped points could prove costly because Newcastle may struggle to avoid defeat in the Potteries.
