RB Leipzig Champions League Tips 2021: Limited Leipzig unlikely to go deep
Lack of goals a concern for solid Germans
They have the best defensive record in the Bundesliga thanks largely to the efforts of Dayot Upamecano, who is developing into an outstanding centre-back. Marcel Sabitzer offers plenty of creativity from midfield.
Since Timo Werner's departure they have lacked a penalty-box predator. They average under two goals per game so there is pressure on the defence to keep things tight.
Manchester City loanee Angelino is having a fine season at left wing-back. He supplies a stream of excellent crosses and has popped up with some important goals.
Losing Werner was a massive challenge for Leipzig but they responded with a 2-1 success over Atletico Madrid in last season's Champions League quarter-finals and have continued to provide the main challenge to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
They play a high-intensity style under 33-year-old head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who continues to be linked with bigger jobs.
But there are limits to what Leipzig can achieve due to the lack of genuine match-winners in the squad.
Their round-of-16 tie against injury-hit Liverpool looks winnable but further progress may prove difficult.
3-1-4-2: Gulacsi; Mukiele, Upamecano, Orban; Kampl; Adams, Dani Olmo, Sabitzer, Angelino; Nkunku, Poulsen.
