Match preview

Manchester City fans have loved watching their team chalk up 15 straight victories in all competitions and it's hard to bet against them making it sweet 16 with a Valentine's weekend win over Tottenham.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho will no doubt tweak a defence who conceded five in their midweek FA Cup defeat at Everton and, if there's any coach with the reputation and nous to solve the problem of repelling City, it's him.

But Pep Guardiola's quad-chasers look unstoppable at the moment as they seek to regain the title they surrendered to Liverpool last term.

Given City's form, the layers are understandably taking few risks but if you want to side with City and don't fancy the unpredictability of correct-score betting, then how about backing City to be ahead and both half-time and full-time at even money?

It's a bet has copped 19 times for Guardiola's side this season.

City have definitely got their big-occasion swagger back and the fact they are still bullying teams even without the enormous influence of Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero makes their dominant spell even more impressive.

In their absence players like Joao Cancelo, John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden are reprising starring roles and the results are strikingly impressive.

This 15-game winning streak has featured nine away wins including at Arsenal (4-1), Chelsea (3-1), Manchester United (2-0) and Liverpool (4-1).

They haven't lost a game since a 2-0 loss at Tottenham on November 21 when both sides were unrecognisable from the versions who will line up at the Etihad.

Back then Spurs were on an eight-game unbeaten run in the Premier League and were being talked up as title-contenders. Since then, however, they have played 13 league matches and won only four to nosedive out of contention.

Their only win in their last five outings was a largely unconvincing 2-0 triumph over a dismal West Brom outfit.

And on Wednesday night came the shock of that 5-4 loss at Everton in the FA Cup, a two-hour ordeal Mourinho could have done without on a night when City were routinely passing a potentially trappy challenge at Swansea in the same competition.

The Spurs boss will have to make changes and could opt to put faith in a safety-in-numbers approach by going five at the back rather than four since only one of his centre-backs – Toby Alderweireld – looks in any way trustworthy.

He will certainly be praying that Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son come to his rescue, because a lot of cracks are being papered over by the feats of his 26-goal strike force.

Tottenham haven't been playing well for a while and Kane and Son are acutely aware that they are going up against a defensive unit who have kept 11 clean sheets in their last 14 top-flight games.

Key stat

Since losing 2-0 at Tottenham in November, City have conceded three goals in 14 Premier League games.
