Liverpool have already been involved in the game of the Premier League season when they beat Manchester City 4-3 and the Merseysiders could serve up another Super Sunday treat as Tottenham head to Anfield.

Goals look guaranteed in a match between two supremely gifted attacking outfits with Liverpool looking the likelier winners in a crucial fixture in the race for Champions League qualification.

Liverpool can be frustrating to back - they followed up that stunning victory over City with successive defeats to Swansea and West Brom - but Jurgen Klopp's men returned to winning ways at Huddersfield and tend to save their best for these mammoth Anfield duels.

Klopp is unbeaten in his last 12 league home dates with fellow members of the big six with Liverpool putting four past Arsenal as well as City.

Chelsea, in a 1-1 draw, and Manchester United, in a goalless stalemate, managed to slow Liverpool's progress, although Spurs don't tend to get involved in aiming to frustrate opponents which will be music to the ears of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Those expansive tactics may explain why Mauricio Pochettino has a poor record away to the elite teams, winning just once in 18 attempts at the big six since he moved to Spurs, and this season has seen no progress in their attempts to improve that sorry statistic.

Spurs lost 1-0 at United, 2-0 at Arsenal and were thumped 4-1 at City in a game where they were lucky to escape with only a three-goal loss. Tottenham were pressed into submission and questions will be asked as to whether there is a better mentality they could adopt on these occasions.

Pochettino will have been delighted with Tuesday's fully deserved 2-0 Wembley win over United, a performance that was set up by Christian Eriksen's goal after just 11 seconds.

Harry Kane failed to add to his 21 Premier League goals in that triumph but he terrorised Liverpool in the reverse fixture as Spurs ran riot in a 4-1 success.

Dejan Lovren had a shocker on that autumn afternoon but Virgil van Dijk has since come in and it may not be quite so easy for Eriksen, Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli on this occasion.

Spurs also put plenty into their win over United, 24 hours after Liverpool's stroll at Huddersfield and that could be telling if, as seems likely, these two get involved in a thrill-a-minute blockbuster.
