Match preview

Arsenal are running out of time to join the race for Champions League qualification and could be dealt another blow by Leeds, who look decent value to avoid defeat at the Emirates.

The Gunners have 15 games left to save their Premier League season but have slipped back into the bottom half and it is quite possible that their season could be defined by the end of February.

They face a tricky Europa League tie against Benfica on Thursday at the Stadium of Light and there are challenging league matches to contend with at home to Manchester City and away to Leicester.

Mikel Arteta will be aware of the importance of taking maximum points against Leeds but it looks a tough fixture and has been made more difficult by the absence of key men Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney.

On a more positive note the Gunners are bolstered by the return from suspension of Bernd Leno and David Luiz and there is the possibility of a first start in almost four weeks for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who featured for a little over half an hour in last Saturday's 1-0 loss at Aston Villa.

However, Aubameyang was far from his best against the Villans and might not have the answers against Leeds, who gave up very few opportunities during their 2-0 success at home to Crystal Palace on Monday.

Leeds's victory over the Eagles eased them into the top half for the first time in three months and put them a point above Arsenal, who have played a game more.

Marcelo Bielsa wants his players to remain humble and refused to talk about them qualifying for Europe but his teams always play with plenty of ambition irrespective of the opponent.

Leeds's record against the big six isn't great, with only two points collected from a possible 18, but one of those was a November goalless draw at home to Arsenal when they won the shot count 26 to nine.

Bielsa's charges are unlikely to be as dominant in north London but they should be competitive and can return to Yorkshire with at least a point.
