Match preview

Thursday Night Football has an interesting angle to it this week as it features the only two teams who have played the Detroit Lions and failed to beat them this season.

Pittsburgh could manage only a tie against the now 1-10-1 team, while the Vikings last week handed Detroit their first win in 364 days.

That defeat will no doubt light a fire under the Vikings and they should be able to bounce back. Despite being 5-7, Minnesota are yet to lose a game by more than a touchdown this season, and there is still a feeling the team are better than their record suggests.

Kirk Cousins is having arguably the best season of his career, having thrown just three interceptions while accumulating the sixth-most passing yards in the league.

Wide receiver Adam Thielen could be absent, which would be a blow, but fellow wideout Justin Jefferson has proved he’s more than capable of carrying the load having posted 182 receiving yards and a touchdown last week.

On the ground, Dalvin Cook’s status is also worth monitoring but back-up running back Alexander Mattison has performed well while Cook has been out.

Mattison could be crucial to Minnesota’s success as he will be going up against a Steelers defence who have allowed 4.8 yards per carry, more than any other team in the league.

Bengals running back Joe Mixon punished Pittsburgh just two weeks ago, and while the Steelers were much better in their win over the Ravens last week, they may well struggle to contain both the passing and ground game of the Vikings.
