Philadelphia Eagles will remain a force without Carson Wentz
Best handicap bet
Philadelphia -7 v New York Giants
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is out for the season with a serious knee injury but his team should not be written off just yet.
Philly’s impressive 11-2 start was about so much more than the second-season passer, even though he has been discussed as a potential winner of the league’s MVP award.
Yes, Wentz has impressed, particularly with some Brett Favre-like miracle completions, but the Eagles would not be where they are without their marauding defence and sound running game.
That’s what has allowed them to dominate games – Wentz passed for only 199 yards when they thumped Denver 51-23, just 168 when they beat Dallas 37-9 and 227 when they hammered Chicago 31-3.
He has been clinical in the red zone, and though back-up Nick Foles is a more limited player, he can manage a game if kept clean by his offensive line.
The Eagles are likely to lean on running back Jay Ajayi more and that looks a sound strategy.
The Giants reinstated Eli Mannning as starting quarterback last week but he was on a hiding to nothing as they lost for the sixth time in seven games and the 11th time in 13 outings this season.
The Giants haven’t scored more than 17 points in their last four games and they may need a lot more than that to stay in touch with the Eagles.
Their running game is struggling and their pass attack has been weak since the early injury to Odell Beckham.

Over 40.5 points in Baltimore at Cleveland
Anyone who watched Buffalo’s crazy 13-7 win over Indianapolis in deep snow last week will know you need to keep an eye on weather forecasts before even thinking about backing overs in cold climates at this time of the NFL season.
But the thermometer is set to stay just above zero in Cleveland where offences could prevail as the winless Browns take on the Ravens.
The line is modest at around the 40 mark and both teams have injuries in their defences.
The Browns could be down two cornerbacks, and Ravens running back Alex Collins will be a real danger too, but the home side have looked far more dangerous offensively since the return of wide receivers Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon.
Best player bet
Adam Thielen to score a touchdown
Cincinnati weren’t that strong defensively even when they were at full strength and they could be in for a rough ride against Minnesota’s powerful offence.
Wide receiver Adam Thielen has had a major breakthrough season for the Vikings.
He has been recording monster yardage totals and has scored a touchdown in four of his last six games.
Making that five out of seven does not look beyond him against the ailing Bengals, who were terrible against Chicago.
