Perth Glory likely to close ranks after humbling in Sydney

Adelaide United not great entertainers

Perth's playoff hopes took a bit of a battering when they were beaten 6-0 by Sydney on Saturday and while they face an easier task against Adelaide it’s not certain that they will get back on track.

Sydney are flying along at the top of the A-League and are the dominant force in the division, but it was still a disappointing away-day for Perth last weekend, and it’s not hard to see Glory going into their shell after such a humbling loss.

Taking that into account and given there is only a single point separating the sides a tight contest looks likely and at 11-10 about there being under 2.5 goals looks a wise play.

Glory have a young and fairly inexperienced back-line – not a single defender is aged more than 28 – but they have been fairly solid at the Perth Oval this season.

Kenny Lowe’s men have conceded just five goals in their five home league matches this term but that’s just as well considering they have notched just five times at the other end.

Adelaide are hardly the great entertainers away from home having scored just eight and leaked seven in their six matches on the road and the Reds were pretty poor when losing 2-1 to Newcastle last week.

The A-League games are coming thick and fast and fixture congestion could also play a part on this clash. There is every chance of fatigue affecting the small squads and that could leave both sides short of ideas.
