Luton finally ready to start living up to market confidence at Doncaster

The betting markets suggest Luton are a better team than their early-season results would indicate and the Hatters can prove that market confidence right at Doncaster.

It has not been a terrible start for newly-promoted Town, who have collected eight points from six matches, but the way Luton were heavily supported for fixtures against Sunderland (1-1 draw) and Peterborough (3-1 defeat) indicates there is much more to come.

Luton have responded well from the shock of being three down after 36 minutes at Posh to beat Southend, Shrewsbury and Brighton Academy, while last week's 1-1 draw at Wycombe came without Danny Hylton, the club's top goalscorer from last season.

Hylton has returned to training and should start whereas Donny have a major doubt over Tommy Rowe.

Doncaster, winless in six after blazing a trail with three victories on the spin, were desperately unlucky to only draw 1-1 at Peterborough last week and have made a similar start to Luton with one point more on the board.

However, there looks to be more potential in the visitors and an Asian handicap punt on the visitors will result in a profit as long as Luton avoid defeat.

Bristol Rovers v Plymouth1.30pm
They nearly made the playoffs last season but Plymouth have made a shocking start to the season with only two points and sit bottom of Sky Bet League One.

I saw them lose 2-1 at Walsall in their opener, a poor performance, and things have got worse. Derek Adams selected a bizarre side for last week's 3-0 hammering at Portsmouth with last season's mainstays David Fox, Ryan Taylor, Graham Carey and Ruben Lameiras all on the bench.

However, despite Plymouth's problems it is not easy to back opponents Bristol Rovers at odds-on.

Rovers have won only one league game themselves and lost all three home contests against Accrington, Portsmouth and Southend.

The Bristol boys had one shot on target - Stefan Payne's penalty - in last week's 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury and they appear to be missing last season's top goalscorer Ellis Harrison, who moved on to Ipswich.

This match kicks off at 1.30pm.

Thought for the week

The Nations League is up and running and should solve two major problems most people had with the international calendar - there are fewer friendlies and more competitive matches.

Take Saturday's seven fixtures.

Belarus are long odds-on to beat San Marino but the other six clashes are extremely competitive heats with Switzerland the next shortest price at 3-4 for their date with Iceland.

It's really not as complicated as some suggest either and there is plenty riding on every match, particularly as smaller nations have the incentive of the chance to qualify for Euro 2020.

Kazakhstan v Georgia on Thursday was great fun and if England finish top of a group including Spain and Croatia and then beat two elite nations in next summer's knockouts, that would be a trophy success worth celebrating.
