Powerhouse Pieters primed to pummel Pepperell
Belgian well suited to Earth Course assignments
Thomas Pieters has failed to find top gear in his two previous Earth Course visits, but there is no reason why the Belgian powerhouse should not score well on this layout, and he can be fancied to outscore Eddie Pepperell over 72 holes.
Pieters, a Ryder Cup star with three European Tour titles to his name, is a class above Tour maiden Pepperell. And this venue, which plays into the hands of big-hitters, favours Pieters over the Englishman.
Pieters, runner-up in the Abu Dhabi Championship last year, has proven himself on this type of track. A share of 11th place in Turkey last time out bodes well for this week and he can see off Earth Course debutant Paul Dunne in the 7.40am first-round twoball.
