Bryson DeChambeau, who was a best-price 45-1 on tournament eve, leads the Heritage by a shot going into the weekend at Harbour Town Links, Hilton Head.

DeChambeau made an eagle and seven birdies in a second-round 64 to edge ahead of Ian Poulter and Si Woo Kim at the summit. The 2015 US Amateur champion won his maiden US Tour title last summer – the John Deere Classic – and is in pole position in South Carolina with two rounds to go.

DeChambeau is 5-1 favourite, with Poulter, who won the Houston Open at the start of this month, available at 8-1. Kim, the brilliant 22-year-old Korean who is reigning Sawgrass champion, is 10-1.

Dustin Johnson, the ante-post market leader, shares 26th place and has a six-shot halfway deficit to overcome. Johnson can be backed at 18-1 for a come-from-behind success.

This event looked wide-open before the start and that remains the case after 36 holes. Outright punters should probably be focusing on DeChambeau, Kim, Bill Haas (40-1), Cameron Smith (25-1), Kevin Kisner (40-1), Webb Simpson (40-1) and Brian Harman (50-1).

Those seven are all fairly priced and capable of setting up a Sunday title chance. Kim is the recommendation for punters looking for only one selection.

Third-round twoball punters are pointed towards Harman (4.45pm), who has been in hugely consistent form over the last year and is teeing up at a course which is perfect for him. The left-handed grinder is much more likely to stay in the title hunt in round three than playing partner Ryan Palmer.

Hills have chalked up 11-8 Harman overnight in their draw-no-bet market, which must be an error and will be rectified as soon as they realise their blunder. Bet365, the other firm up with early prices for the match go a more than fair 4-5.

The final pairing of DeChambeau and Kim is scheduled on the tee at 7.05pm UK and Ireland time.
