The novelty of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans takes another twist on Friday when the pairs play in foursomes where players take alternate shots.

The format is in its second year and it seems fair to say it still takes some getting used to, which means betting can be a complicated issue as players rarely take part in foursome play.

However, a case could be made for American pair Billy Horschel and Scott Piercy getting the better of Spaniards Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Sergio Garcia.

Horschel and Piercy finished two shots better than their opponents in Thursday's fourballs, when the best score posted by the pair counted.

And what will have pleased the Americans is that Piercy, a three-time winner on the US Tour, was able to bounce back from missing last week's cut at the Texas Open to make the greater contribution.

He does not possess great course form - his last outing was in 2015 when he missed the cut for the fourth time in his last five attempts at the Louisiana venue - but he should build on that promising first outing.

Piercy was 13th when the tournament was a conventional four-round strokeplay event in 2012, the year before his playing partner claimed the prize.

Horschel's happy memories of Avondale are boosted by some excellent recent form. Although he missed the cut at the Masters, he was fifth the following week at the RBC Heritage and 11th in Texas last week.

Given that both players appear to be in warm order, it is worth chacning them at 6-4 to get the better of Cabrera-Bello and Garcia in their 7.30pm BST showdown.

Their opponents have made one course visit between them - Garcia was 70th in 2010 - and it is possible that their putting could be a weakness.

The 2017 Masters champion carded four birdies on Thursday but three of those came at par fives, so they will need to take advantage of any opportunities and they look short enough to do so.

Recommendation
B Horschel & S Piercy to beat R Cabrera-Bello & S Garcia
