Novelist Chimamanda Adichie has a phrase for it: the danger of a single story. She says that when you know only one story about a person you have a crude caricature of them. Only by adding more stories can you get a better, more rounded portrait.
The same goes for places, she says. And for betting, I believe.
Adichie says: “The single story creates stereotypes. And the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete.”
