Saturday's Olympic Games predictions: Top seeds vulnerable to Swiss duo

Sweden's Stahl can serve up discuss gold as Ireland eye hockey upset

Three things to watch out for in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Saturday.

Best bet

CB Bencic & V Gloubic to beat B Krejcikova & K Siniakova in women's tennis doubles
1pt 3-1 Hills

Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Viktoria Golubic haven’t put a foot wrong and there’s no reason why they can’t topple the top seeds at a big price.

Men's Discus

Saturday, 12.15pm

Any 4-6 that was around for Daniel Stahl in the discus soon vanished after he chucked the longest throw – with his only throw – in qualifying.

The Swede, winner of 12 out of 13 competitions this season and a season's best of 71.40, hurled 66.12 with his opening throw in the heats and didn't need to go again. He's now around the 2-5 mark and shorter to dot up in the final.

Two possible dangers – Fedrick Dacres and Reggie Jagers – didn't make the final though two others – Andrius Gudzius from Lithuania and Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh – got beyond the 65m line.

Women's hockey

Saturday, 12.45pm

It's quite probably win-or-bust for Ireland when they take on Great Britain in their final pool game – and the layers reckon it's bust.

The Irish ladies are a remote 9-1 shot to chalk up the second win which would almost certainly book them a place in the quarter-finals.

They could yet lose and go through, although would need pointless South Africa to upset India for that to happen. Champions Britain, meanwhile, will probably finish third which will set up a last-eight tie with either Argentina, New Zealand or Spain.

Women's 3,000m steeplechase

Sunday, 1.40am

Round one is the early hours of Sunday morning and this looks competitive with world-record holder Beatrice Chepkoech not in the best of form.

Chepkoech started the year promisingly but has not won a single steeplechase this year and not gone under nine minutes.

That makes her Kenyan compatriot Hyvin Kiyeng a live danger - both runners are around the 2-1 mark - but also brings one or two others into the mix.

Mekides Abibe, who set an Ethiopian record of 9:02.52 at the Diamond League meeting in Doha, looks a decent alternative at around 10-1. The final is on Thursday.
