Nolan has County heading in the right direction

Magpies flying high after four straight wins

Notts County manager Kevin Nolan
1 of 1

Crewe Notts County

They have had enough false dawns at Meadow Lane to last a lifetime, but there’s a sense of the Sky Bet League Two club heading in the right direction again.

Owner Alan Hardy took a massive punt when he gave Kevin Nolan the keys to the manager’s office in January, but the gamble is paying off.

County have pulled clear, Nolan has instilled Premier League discipline and organisation into the team and four straight wins – three against top-half opponents – have seen the Magpies soar to safety.

The veteran frontline of Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead (69 years between them) have hit it off and if the rejuvenated Richard Duffy can stifle Alex frontman Chris Dagnall, a fifth straight wins beckons for County.

Recommendation

Colchester Doncaster

If there’s a good time to be playing Doncaster, six days after they clinched promotion is probably it.

The Donny players partied hard last weekend and weren’t back in training until Wednesday, and even though the public message is “nothing changes” they can definitely be taken on at the Weston Homes Stadium where Colchester are formidable.

The Essex side have won ten of their last 12 home Sky Bet League Two matches with last Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing of Stevenage confirmation, if it was needed, that they are right in the playoff chase.

Liam Mandeville and James Coppinger are two non-starters for Darren Ferguson as the Donny boss prepared to utilise his whole squad over Easter.

Gillingham Bristol Rovers

The Sky Bet League One clash between Gillingham and Bristol Rovers smells like a goal feast.

The Gills are dangling over the precipice and need home wins which means they need goals. Rovers are four points outside the playoff and need wins, therefore goals.

Gillingham haven’t kept a clean sheet in 19 matches which will delight the visitors, while both teams have scored in 14 of their last 16 outings.

Take the 11-10 that both teams score in a match producing at least three goals.

Recommendation
Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score
