N Kyrgios v J M Del Potro

Nick Kyrgios was a beaten finalist in Cincinnati last season and the quirky Australian can express his love for the venue by putting on a show against fourth seed Juan Martin del Potro in a mammoth last-16 tussle.

Kyrgios isn’t an easy player for punters to read but against seasoned opposition he tends to give his all and deciding-set victories over Denis Kudla and Borna Coric this week suggest he is very much up for the fight.

Del Potro ultimately outclassed promising youngster Hyeon Chung 6-2 6-3 in the last round but the scoreline was a shade flattering. The giant Argentinian was twice broken and was operating at just 65 per cent on his first serve.

That was his first performance since withdrawing from Toronto and he may be a while away from hitting peak form as his US Open preparations continue, while Kyrgios - beaten 6-0 by Coric in the second set on Thursday - has a tendency to blow hot and cold.

This intriguing clash could go the distance and quotes of 11-8 about it doing so makes plenty of appeal.

S Halep v A Barty

Simona Halep beat Ashleigh Barty 6-4 6-1 on her way to silverware in Montreal last week but punters should expect the Australian to keep their Cincinnati last-16 showdown much closer.

Halep was sensational in Canada but her title-decider against Sloane Stephens was a gruelling three sets which may have taken more out of her than people anticipate.

Stephens showed the effects of their titanic tussle labouring to a 7-6 6-2 defeat to Elise Mertens on Thursday and Halep, who needed a deciding set to see off Barty's compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic in the last round, could be a shade vulnerable.

Barty is improving at a considerable rate of knots and backing her to win a set at 4-5 with Betway looks the way to go.
