Seattle against New Orleans would have been a marquee NFL match-up this time 12 months ago, bringing together two great quarterbacks in Drew Brees and Russell Wilson.

Fast forward to the present day and thanks to retirement and injury, we are instead treated to Jameis Winston against Geno Smith – hardly a recipe for a barnstormer.

Throw some traditional squally Seattle weather into the mix and points could be hard to come by for two franchises fighting hard to stay relevant in the NFC.

The Saints are strong favourites to take down a Seahawks team who dropped to 2-4 at Pittsburgh Steelers last week in their first outing without Wilson.

His replacement Smith performed admirably until giving up a game-deciding fumble and he’ll need to put that disappointment behind him quickly ahead of another tricky assignment.

The Saints don’t make it easy to move the ball, ranking second in DVOA against the run, while their secondary has recorded nine interceptions this year. That’s bad news for Smith, who has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in his career.

Defence has been the only consistent cog of a New Orleans team who have blown hot and cold.

Their offence has looked limited with QB Winston operating on a short lead and with bad weather forecast, it’s likely we’ll see Alvin Kamara running the ball even more than usual.

Seattle’s last four games have gone under the total points and if their defence puts in another improved showing, there’s every chance they can keep a lid on the Saints.
