Tennessee were 11-1 to win the AFC South at the start of the season but four wins from eight matches have given them an excellent chance of winning a moderate division, especially after their convincing win over Jacksonville ten days ago.

Admittedly, the Jaguars were in a sorry state and none of the Titans’ other three victims have winning records as the season reaches its half-way stage.

However, Tennessee cannot fail to be encouraged by their efforts and they can be expected to go on the front foot against the Chargers.

After all, they scored 27 unanswered first-half points against Jacksonvillle and that proved a great building block.

Their game against San Diego may not be the most eyecatching of this week’s fixtures but it could still prove to be an entertaining clash.

The Chargers are unfortunate to be playing in one of the hottest divisions in the NFL – their AFC West rivals Oakland, Denver and Kansas City have all lost just two games each – but San Diego will feel they can still have a successful season.

Key stat
San Diego have covered the handicap in nine of their last 12 matches

Atlanta and New Orleans are the only teams who have scored a higher average number of points per game than San Diego’s 28.1, but coach Mike McCoy will have been disappointed to see his team concede an average of 26.5.

The passing game remains strong and running back Melvin Gordon has scored eight touchdowns this season so they are plainly capable of putting up points.

A fast start from the confident Titans is likely to spark them into action, so it would make sense to go over a points line of 46.5.
