Super Bowl LIX expert predictions for Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will meet on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Here are our NFL experts' best bets for the game

Super Bowl LIX takes place at the Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday and a fascinating contest is in prospect as the Kansas City Chiefs chase a third successive Super Bowl win.

It's a repeat of the big game from just two years ago, when Andy Reid's team prevailed 38-35 with a trademark fourth-quarter comeback.

We asked our NFL experts for their best bets on the big game and a majority expect the Chiefs to write another page in the NFL history book with their fourth win in six seasons, although some Eagles stars are expected to have solid individual performances.

Tom Hill's best bet: Dallas Goedert over 51.5 receiving yards

The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled to contain tight ends all season, which does not bode well for their matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has caught at least four passes per game for 45 yards or more since he returned from injury in the final game of the regular season.

In the post-season he has been Jalen Hurts' top target, catching 15 passes for 188 yards in three games.

Goedert should be able to find plenty of space against the Chiefs, but that should not stop Andy Reid's team coming up with the goods like they always do at this stage of the season and their experience at this level should help them over the line.

Joe Casey's best bet: Saquon Barkley over 114.5 rushing yards

The Chiefs have gone 18 straight playoff games without allowing an individual to rush for 100 yards but that streak could come to an end against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In Saquon Barkley the Eagles have the outstanding player of the season and he can go over his line of 115 rushing yards, something he has managed in 11 of his 19 games this season.

With the Super Bowl on the line, Philadelphia are likely to lean heavily on their strengths.

Phil Agius's best bet: Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl

Coaching and quarterback play matter most when the stakes are highest and it's hard to bet against Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes coming up with the goods once more for another Super Bowl win.

The Chiefs have not blown away the opposition this season but they have ruthlessly got the job done and the Buffalo Bills were the only team to beat them in a meaningful game this season and they avenged that loss with their AFC Championship win.

The big hope for the Eagles is that their defence could overpower the patched-up Chiefs offensive line, which was the problem area in KC's Super Bowl loss to the Buccaneers, but while it should be close, the Chiefs can come through again.

Chris Farley's best bet: Kansas City Chiefs -1.5

Kansas City don't look the most impressive team in the NFL on paper this season, particularly on offense. They ranked only 12th in points per game (23.2), 23rd in rushing yards (103.9) and even their feared pass offence led by Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been as spectacular this year, coming in 19th in yards per pass (6.9) and 15th in passing yards per game (220.5).

They have been stronger defensively, ranking in the top 10 in opponent points per game, points per play, yards per game, yards per rush and in red-zone touchdown percentage.

However, having a quarterback who can execute under the greatest pressure and a defence that can stop opponents in their tracks count for plenty and that is where the Chiefs excel. Mahomes can conjure up magic at key moments, while defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is a genius at disguising blitzes. That should add up to the Chiefs covering the handicap.

Ricky Dimon's best bet: Kansas City Chiefs -1.5

The Chiefs have the edge in several areas, not least experience as they are  going for a third straight win with largely the same group of players.

I’m not willing to bet against Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl and while he has lost one, that was against Tom Brady, the only player still in front of him in the argument over who is the greatest of all time. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are tough opponents but they are more beatable.

Philadelphia have a strong all-round roster but the Chiefs' defence can also play a part in securing another Super Bowl win and covering the spread.

Andrew Wilsher's best bet: Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl

The scene is for a tremendous game in Super Bowl LIX but the Chiefs should find a way to win. They didn't impress many people with their regular-season performances but they went 15-2 and were the better team in their playoffs wins against the Texans and Bills.

Saquon Barkley and the Eagles have been brilliant all season, but they have weaknesses. Their offence was below-par in the Wild Card win against the Packers and the Rams gave them a late fright.

What matters is that Mahomes is a better QB than Hurts and Andy Reid is a superior coach to Nick Sirianni, but I’ll take Kansas City on the match odds rather than the handicap just in case we get another tight finish.

Caleb Wilfinger's best bet: Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl

I also expect the Chiefs to come through and beat the Eagles. Mahomes has been awesome when his team have been favoured by less than a field goal, with an 8-0 career record both straight up and against the handicap. Expect another impressive game from the Chiefs' star quarterback.

The Eagles haven't had the toughest run imaginable to reach the Super Bowl and while their rushing attack is formidable with Saquon Barkley operating behind a strong offensive line, the Chiefs should be able to keep tabs on the inconsistent Eagles passing game. It could be another close Super Bowl but the Chiefs can come out on top again.

Luke Lindholm's best bet: Over 48.5 points

While many NFL fans were hoping for the opposite results in the Conference Championship games, this Super Bowl rematch from two years ago should not disappoint.

The battle between the Eagles' rushing attack and the Chiefs’ defence could prove a key area, and while Kansas City conceded just 101.8 rushing yards per game in the regular season (8th in the NFL), the Texans racked up 149 rushing yards at 5.1 per attempt against them in the playoffs before Buffalo had 147 on the ground at 4.6 per attempt.

Philadelphia should be able to record a solid score but Kansas City scored 30 points in the AFC Championship and I can see them doing that again in the Super Bowl. They were moving the ball well even without much assistance from Travis Kelce and this could turn into a shootout, so I'm taking the over on the total points line.
