49ers at Broncos preview

The 49ers take on old adversary Russell Wilson in the early hours of Monday morning, and the San Francisco defence can at least do their part in keeping the Denver signal-caller quiet.

Wilson was a thorn in the side of the Niners for more than a decade when playing for divisional rivals Seattle before his move to Denver in the off-season, and although Wilson will know all of San Fran’s weaknesses, they will know his.

The Broncos’ offence has struggled to post points in the first two weeks of the season, despite facing relatively weak opposition in the Texans and Seahawks, which doesn't bode well for taking on a stacked 49ers defence which has allowed the fewest passing yards per game this term.

As for San Francisco’s offence, they hammered the Seahawks but looked flat against the Bears in Week One, albeit in monsoon conditions.

Jimmy Garoppolo is back at quarterback after Trey Lance suffered a season-ending injury last week and despite his previous success when stepping in for Lance at short notice, he could take time to gel with his receivers again.

Tight end George Kittle is expected to play some part for 49ers after a recent spell on the sidelines but his influence may not be instantaneous.

Total points have gone under in all of the pair's four combined games this season, and banking on a tight affair looks the best play again.
