Game preview

A potential Super Bowl rehearsal takes place in Maryland as San Francisco take on Baltimore, and the hosts can come out on top.

The teams have lost just three games between them this season and both highlighted their dominance with crushing wins last weekend. The 49ers stormed to a 37-8 home victory over Green Bay while Baltimore devastated the LA Rams 45-6, with the Ravens offence scoring a touchdown on each of their first six possessions.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes in that game and teams are struggling to stop them.

Baltimore have scored at least 37 points in their last four games and have been dominant in their running game, averaging at least 65 more rushing yards per game than any other team. San Francisco have the second-most rushing yards.

However, as good as Baltimore’s offence has been, their defence hasn’t been far behind. They have the third-best run defence in the league and comfortably held top running back Todd Gurley to just 22 yards last week.

While the 49ers have the top-ranked defence, that is largely down to their ability to stop the pass as they have allowed an average of just 136 passing yards per game.

Their run defence ranks only 19th, and they found it difficult to contain Arizona's running back Kenyan Drake and quarterback Kyler Murray two weeks ago.

The Cardinals' offence is similar to Baltimore’s and it is difficult to see San Francisco keeping pace with the Ravens in what could turn into a high-scoring battle.
