Match preview
San Francisco made a serious statement on Sunday as they demolished Carolina 51-13, and there could be more to come when they take on Arizona.
That emphatic victory took the 49ers’ record to 7-0, and highlighted that they are just as vicious on offence as they are on defence.
That is likely to worry Kliff Kingsbury and Arizona, who despite their 3-4-1 record have conceded the third-most points in the league and are yet to keep an opponent from scoring less than 21 points.
Much of that has been down to their inability to contain tight ends, with a player scoring a touchdown from that position in seven of their eight games this season. It is also a position they give up significant yardage to - Detroit’s TJ Hockenson, Baltimore’s Mark Andrews and Atlanta’s Austin Hooper have all hit triple figures when they have played Arizona.
Although the 49ers boast one of the best tight ends in the game in George Kittle, who has the fourth-most yards for that position this season with 462 from 40 receptions, he accounts for only one of San Francisco’s 24 touchdowns.
However, he has racked up the most receiving yards for the Californian franchise in five of their seven games, so it’s not as though he’s lacking rapport with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
All things considered, the Wisconsin native looks short in the betting to find the endzone but is worth supporting to rack up over 67.5 receiving yards, a number he has topped in three of his last four games.
