Match preview

The NFL takes a break from its enthralling playoff schedule to host the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas, and it looks likely to be an entertaining encounter.

The top players from both conferences face off in this all star game but don’t expect too much defensive effort in this exhibition, with players mostly looking to avoid injury and put on a good show.

Tackling is generally toned way down and the game is essentially a tag version of the sport.

The spectacle returns after a year’s hiatus due to Covid. The AFC have won the last four and are favourites to make it five in a row led by quarterbacks Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.

Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady miss out for the NFC who have Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins under centre.

With such an array of quarterback talent and question marks over the defences on show, it may be worth siding with a high-scoring affair.

The 2019 edition, the last time the Pro Bowl was played, finished 38-33 and a similar score is not out of the realms of possibility.

With the countdown to the Super Bowl well and truly on, punters could get the ideal teaser in Sin City.
