Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars

6pm Sunday

A dark cloud has been lifted from Jacksonville after head coach Urban Meyer was given his marching orders this week and his welcome departure should see the rebirth of running back James Robinson as a force in the NFL.

Robinson enjoyed an excellent rookie season with the Jags, rushing for more than 1000 yards but for whatever reason Meyer wasn’t a fan, limiting his snaps.

Interim head coach Darrell Bevell has made it clear Robinson will have a much larger role in the offence under his stewardship and he has a nice match-up this week against the Houston Texans.

The Texans have the worst run defence in the league, allowing 147.9 yards per game on average this year. Robinson ran for 99 yards the last time Houston visited their AFC South rivals and faces little competition for carries in the Jags offence with fellow running back Carlos Hyde ruled out.

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins

6pm Sunday

Did the New York Jets select a lame duck with the second overall pick in the draft this year? It is certainly starting to look that way as quarterback Zach Wilson’s rookie season is going from bad to worst.

Wilson completed a season-low 45 per cent of his passes in last week’s defeat to the New Orleans Saints as he managed 202 passing yards. That was only the third time in his last seven starts that Wilson has cracked the 200-yard mark and now he goes up against a strong Dolphins secondary without top receiver Elijah Moore.

Miami have held opponents to 212 passing yards in four of their last five games with the defence creating at least one turnover in six of the last seven outings. That spells trouble for Wilson, who has thrown 11 interceptions this year.

Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers

Sunday 9.05pm

The 49ers are powering towards the playoffs thanks to the vast improvements made by the offence in recent matches. Since Week Eight, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has hit his stride, throwing for the third-highest number of yards (1,831) and eighth-most touchdowns (11).

He’s brought the best out of wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle, helping the Niners to average more than 27 points per game in that stretch. A strong running game has also kept the offence moving and they should punch some big holes in a Falcons defence ranked 23rd at stopping the run.

Atlanta have played well on the road this year, winning five of the last six and averaging over 22 points per game. They can play their part in helping the over land for the sixth time in the 49ers’ last eight games.

Cincinnati Bengals at Denver Broncos

Sunday 9.05pm

The Bengals have been one of the best-performing roads side in the AFC this year, boasting a 4-2 road and are being underestimated when it comes to putting up points against the Broncos.

On the surface, Denver’s defence have been playing well of late, holding six of their last seven opponents to less than 20 points. However, the analytics paint a different picture with the Broncos ranking 21st in total defence DVOA.

The Bengals can expose that defence with running back Joe Mixon enjoying an excellent season and quarterback Joe Burrow in good form, despite a finger injury. Cincinnati have plenty of playmakers on offence who have helped them average nearly 30 points per game on the road this year.
