Match preview

It will be an emotional day in Buffalo as the Bills return to action following Monday's traumatic events in their abandoned game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

That key AFC match was stopped in the first quarter when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed and required CPR on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Hamlin is happily recovering in hospital and has been able to send a good luck message to his teammates, but it's hard to judge how they will have been affected by the experience of seeing their teammate fighting for his life.

The Bills' minds have been far from this game against the Patriots this week but if they are able to function at all close to normal levels given their disrupted preparation, they have the talent to record an emotional victory.

The Bills-Bengals game will not be completed or replayed and the NFL has announced that if the cancellation affects the playoff seedings after this week's results are known, that the AFC Championship game could be played at a neutral venue.

Going into the Bengals match, the Bills had been undefeated in six games and were in far better form than the Patriots, who can lock up a playoff spot with a win but have been far from convincing in recent games.

New England picked up a big win over Miami but the Dolphins were down to their third-string QB, and the Patriots had lost four of their five previous games. The Bills beat the Patriots by 14 on the road in their first meeting and should sign off the regular season with another victory.
