Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Chargers preview 

Brazil's football teams are known for their swagger and attacking flair but defences could well be on top when Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers do battle in the first international game of the 2025 NFL season in Brazil.

The Chiefs' bid for a third successive Super Bowl success came to a convincing end with their 40-22 defeat by Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans in February, but Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the rest of the Kansas City squad are favourites to start out with a win in South America.

Andy Reid's team won both AFC West clashes with Jim Harbaugh's Chargers last season, but each were close and low-scoring affairs, with Kansas City coming out on top by 17-10 on the road and 19-17 at home and the Brazilian audiences may not be treated to an offensive exhibition.

The Chiefs are not likely to just fade away after last season's disappointment, but their offence has taken a couple of hits with the loss of veteran left guard Joe Thuney and wide receiver Rashee Rice suspended for the first six weeks. 

The Chargers set out to play defence and run the ball, and the additions of veteran running back Najee Harris and rookie Omarion Hampton have enhanced their efforts on that front.

The LA team limited the Chiefs to just 36 points in their two games last season, despite losing both, and this could be a cagey contest. The Chiefs should find a way to win, but neither team are likely to find it easy to score many more than 20 points and taking the under could be the best bet, with the humid conditions also likely to play a part.
