NFL season predictions

After failing to reach the playoffs in 2024, the Cincinnati Bengals are hoping to write some wrongs in 2025 and quarterback Joe Burrow will have his own individual goals to target.

The Bengals have been famously slow starters under Zac Taylor during the first two weeks and have recorded just one win in 12 games during that time since 2019.

Cincinnati finished last season third in the AFC North, arguably the toughest division in the NFL, with a 9-8 record.

Despite starting the season with a 1-4 record, Burrow turned his team's season around alongside wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase.

Burrow primed to lead the MVP race

Burrow finished the season as the leading passer in the NFL, throwing for 4,918 yards. He has never won an MVP award, and he was let down by his defence last season.

Last year, Burrow threw for 43 touchdowns and only nine interceptions, despite recovering from a wrist injury the year before. This time around, he appears fit and ready to go and he should give MVP favourite Lamar Jackson a run for his money.

While Burrow and Jackson will always draw headlines, the spotlight will be on Jacksonville Jaguars ace Travis Hunter.

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty leads the way in the market for offensive rookie of the year but Hunter is a once-in-a-generation talent.

Hunter is set to play at wide receiver and cornerback this year and if he does anything positive on offence, it will have twice as much effect across the league.

With Jacksonville now under the guidance of Liam Coen, the Jaguars offence should improve, which aids Hunter's chances of winning the award.

On the other side of the ball, the New York Giants selected the first out-and-out defender in the 2025 NFL Draft when they added Abdul Carter to their ranks.

Carter has landed in a good spot, as he will line up alongside Dexter Lawrence II, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns. That should take the pressure off Carter, but he looks primed to handle the expectations that a move to New York brings.

Throughout the summer at training camp, Carter looked the leading light on defence and he ended his college career with 12 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss.

Carter's power and speed will get him into some great areas to disrupt and cause havoc and all signs point to him landing the defensive rookie of the year award.
