Newport could shock reshuffled Leeds line-up

Thomas Christiansen to make sweeping changes

FA Cup third round
BBC1 Wales, midday Sunday

Thomas Christiansen has been left in no doubt by Leeds United’s owners that promotion to the Premier League is the only thing on the Dane’s to-do list this season, and that makes them vulnerable at Rodney Parade.

There are 53 places between Newport and Leeds in football’s pyramid but Christiansen will make changes galore after a hectic festive schedule and the Exiles will be buzzing at the prospect of bringing down the Yorkshire giants.

Leeds’ fans who remember last season’s flop at Sutton in the fourth round probably won’t travel with much optimism. Maybe a punt on County will soften the blow of a dismal trip home.

Newport are going well. They have lost only one of their last eight and Monday’s 2-1 win over Exeter has really buoyed the club.

They were thumped 5-1 at Elland Road in the League Cup in August but Christiansen was the first to admit there had been little to choose between the sides.

Since then, Leeds have maintained their promotion push but they head for Wales having failed to score in their last two games.

Even so, Christiansen is expected to show faith in 19-year-old striker Jay-Roy Grot, with the Dutch youngster one of an expected eight or nine changes from their normal side.
