New York City should enjoy trip to Orlando

Domenec Torrent doing a great job

Striker David Villa could return from injury for New York City

Sky Sports Football, 1am Thursday night
Nicely rested and on a decent run of form, New York City look the best bet in their MLS Eastern Conference clash at freefalling Orlando.

The boys from the Big Apple have won four out of five under new boss Domenec Torrent, who has been sorely handicapped by a shortage of strikers since arriving in the States from Manchester City last month.

Three wins to nil in the last week suggest that injuries to David Villa, Jo Inge Berget and top scorer Ismail Tajouri aren’t proving too much of an inconvenience, while they have impressed defensively.

The same cannot be said of Orlando. The Florida side haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 14 games and have lost ten of their last 11 in the league to plunge towards the bottom of the conference.

They were, admittedly, unlucky to lose 3-2 at Columbus on Saturday night where they were undone by a controversial penalty when leading 2-1.

But the atmosphere at the Orlando City Stadium is not what it was earlier in the season and that’s a situation the New Yorkers can exploit.

The last three meetings between these sides have produced an aggregate scoreline of 8-0 to New York, who come into the game rested after a ten-day break. That has given skipper Villa the chance to recover from a knee injury and he’s in line for a start after a month out.
