Rally preview

It's now or never for Sebastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville if they are to deny Ott Tanak the world rally crown.

The Estonian star is 1-40 to take his first championship and leads Ogier by 28 points and Neuville by 41 with only this week's Rally Catalunya of Spain and the finale in Ausrtralia to come.

Tanak is 11-8 favourite to secure the victory that would clinch the crown on the mixed-surface rally that combines asphalt and gravel stages.

Going first on the early gravel stages is a disadvantage for the title contenders, though, and drivers further down the standings can take advantage of a later starting slot.

Hyundai's Dani Sordo appeals most. The Spaniard has competed in only seven of the 12 events, so is only tenth in the standings despite his victory on the Sardinian gravel roads in the Rally of Italy.

Sordo has been on the podium seven times in his home event and should be able to show up well again.

Sebastien Loeb has not been beaten in Spain in his last nine appearances and he is attempting to repeat last year's comeback victory having not raced since the Portuguese round in June.

Standings: 1 O Tanak 240, 2 S Ogier 212, 3 T Neuville 199, 4 A Mikkelsen 102, 5 K Meeke 98, 6 E Evans 90.
