Rookie of the year Fabio Quartararo is favourite to score his sixth pole position in the final race of the MotoGP season in Valencia.

The young Frenchman is yet to win a race in the premier class – indeed he won only once in 67 starts in the junior categories – but he has made a real name for himself this season.

Quartararo headed both of Friday’s practice sessions but fellow Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales and world champion Marc Marquez were also in the mix.

Ducati’s form has dramatically tailed off, but Jack Miller was close enough to suggest he can contend for the front row and could be a bit of each-way value.

The Australian has had three front-row starts this season and qualified fourth in Malaysia last time.
